During 1998, the USGS and AGFD surveyors covered 6603 hectares over 564.51 hours and detected 153 breeding pairs of Western Yellow-billed Cuckoos.   Therefore an average of 11.7 hectares were surveyed per hour of effort, during which 0.27 breeding pairs were detected per hour, with an average of one pair detected for each 43.2 hectares surveyed.
